Special Olympics Peterborough is dedicated to people with an intellectual disability; but it provides athletes with far more than just the physical benefits of sport. Special Olympics changes lives.

With the opportunities to excel and have fun come the benefits of improved health and self-image. For many athletes, participating in Special Olympics is a path to healthy living, empowerment, acceptance and friendship. SOP is dedicated to increasing the physical fitness, confidence and other sport and life skills of our athletes; all in a positive and supportive environment.

If you, or someone you know, would be interested in participating in local sport through Special Olympics, please use the link below to being the registration process. Alternatively, you can contact either Bill Strode or Ray Walt, at the email addresses found on the "Contact Us" tab at the top of this site.

Volunteer Registration

At the community level, every facet of our programs - from administration to coaching - are run by volunteers. Our volunteers take pride in knowing they're providing athletes that have an intellectual disability the opportunity to experience the excitement, joy and personal fulfilment associated with participating in sport in Peterborough.

If you would like to be a volunteer and change lives, you can register using the forms below. We always have room for energetic, compassionate people who want to have fun, help others, and make a difference.

Volunteer Process:
  1. Print off the Police Check form, as well as the Volunteer Registration form. Both forms can be found on the "Forms" page of this site, through the navigation tab at the top of the pages.
  2. Have the Police Check form signed by either our Volunteer Coordinator - Jill Chapman or by our Recording Secretary - Jeff Hopkins. Their email addresses can also be found in the "Contact Us" section of this website.
  3. Take the Police Check form to either the Peterborough Police station (if you live within city limits of Peterborough), or the OPP station (if you live outside of city limits). At the station, show them the form, and request a police check. They will have you fill out another form, authorizing the police check to be completed. Pay their small fee. You will be able to pick up the completed police check results within 2 weeks usually.
  4. Bring the completed Police Check and the completed Volunteer Registration form to either Jim or Jeff. Special Olympics Ontario will need your ORIGINAL police check result, so make a copy for yourself prior to submitting it.
  5. All done!
